Woman Wednesday: Ivana

Q and A with Ivana, Croatia, Europe

“Your vision of your business is going to guide you to where you want to go, but your energy of excitement and joy is going to make it a success.”

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: My name is Ivana Bosnjak and I have been a digital Entrepreneur since 2007. I am going to share a little story with you and what are the two most important elements you need to have to build a successful online business. I love business. I love marketing and sales and have been doing it for so many years. Having said this, while I am great at business, I am a big fan of Law of Attraction, energy, work, and how we attract things. I currently help people with knowledge and expertise build a business they love by attracting their ideal clients to them. My programs can take someone who is unknown to popular, seeked-out experts in as little as 4 weeks.

Q: What were your younger years like?

A: Having said this, I come from very humble beginnings. I migrated to the United States back in 1997 with just $100 dollars in my pocket. Without parents, without any support at 18. Prior to that, at the age of 12, I’ve lived through a very bad war at home, and the US offered a fresh start. Within 3 years, I was already making a name for myself selling Real Estate.

Q: What is something valuable you’d like others to know?

A: Over the years, I’ve built multiple businesses while a lot of people focus on numbers and growth. For me, it has always been aligning with my goals, making sure I am making a difference in the world and that is what pushed me to make those successful.

Q: What does feminism mean to you?

A: For me, feminism = women power. I didn’t know how much we are undervalued as females until I was a part of a very male-dominated industry. I really had my work cut out for me to make myself stand out. Some people tend to tell me, Ivana, you are a powerful woman. I’ve raised two kids on my own since they were three and five while building multiple businesses online. While it was not always easy, I am proud of them and the businesses I’ve created over the years.

MORE FROM IVANA: The journey of an entrepreneur is not easy. I’ve experienced ups and downs in my business. I’ve had product launches that did not go as planned, but I never gave up. It took me a while to master my skills. And now I can share with others exactly what works. My experience has shown me the two elements you need to have to build a successful business. Your vision of your business is going to guide you to where you want to go, but your energy of excitement and joy is going to make it a success.

Woman Wednesday: Michelle

Q and A with Michelle, Tampa, Florida

“Get to know others, step out of the bubble, and really connect with people. This is how we grow.”

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: I am passionate about how women can be each other’s best allies. When I launched my book Blue-Collar Beauty, Confessions of a Plastic Surgery Coach, I assembled a team of friends, family, former colleagues, etc. that came together to help me reach number #1 [seller] on Amazon. It was amazing! I was so moved by the experience, literally weeping from the overwhelming support from these incredible women and their willingness to help me on my journey. What struck me profoundly was the personal and professional diversity in my connections…women coming together for a common bond. It was powerful, and I could not stop thinking about what’s next.

Q: What were your younger years like?

A: I was blessed to have an amazing upbringing. I come from a small town in upstate NY and was raised in a solid loving nuclear family environment, which I believe has impacted me beyond measure. My parents are both schoolteachers and my father is a coach. I was surrounded by sports and a growth mindset from before I could walk. I had a deep love of music and played several sports all the way through my collegiate years, which too, has contributed to my success and well-being. One of my business partners always mentions to people that I was the prom queen in high school, and it makes me laugh. Yes, I was, and it was because I was friends with everyone.

Q: What is something valuable you’d like others to know?

A: What I have learned is that we all have a story, and shared experiences are what connect us. Get to know others, step out of the bubble, and really connect with people. This is how we grow.

Q: What does feminism mean to you?

A: Feminism, as the definition appears, is about equality. We live in a male-dominated world and any woman who has worked inside corporate America has shared experiences on this. Feminism, to me, is standing together and supporting one another as women. All women, regardless of our differences, whether that be faiths, class, gender expression, sizes, shapes. We, as women, need to stand together, support, and uplift one another.

MORE FROM MICHELLE: I have spent twenty years working in the plastic surgery industry. I have met with thousands of women wanting to look and feel their best. There are so many layers to this; however, at the core, it is about doing what’s right for you. This is why I am jumping in feet-first with our new platform-Ask Us Beauty, a digital magazine for women on all things beauty and wellness. We want to take our power back from mainstream marketing and provide a platform with real influencers to educate and empower women so that we can all define beauty on our own terms.

Ask Us beauty launches in August and you are going to love it! Sign up for our inaugural issue which we are offering free! www.askusbeauty.com and follow us on IG @askusbeautymagazine

Q and A with Alison W., Virginia Beach, Virginia

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: I am passionate about helping women feel beautiful in their own skin. I am the owner of Wanderlust Dream Hair, and I sell hair toppers for women with thinning hair, women with hair loss due to medical conditions, and women who just want that extra volume! I have always had fine, thin hair and tried everything to make it appear thicker: hair extensions, volumizing spray, et cetera, but nothing really worked for me because traditional hair extensions do not address thinning on the top of your head. I also started medical treatment for chronic migraines that created even more hair loss, so I was motivated to find a solution. Then I discovered toppers! Toppers clip to the top of your existing hair and create the appearance of thicker, fuller hair.

Body image is such a big issue for a lot of women. Most of us don’t realize that those celebrity hairstyles we covet are just wigs, toppers, or extensions. Hollywood paints a false picture of what a naturally beautiful woman looks like.

Q: What were your younger years like?

A: My younger years were volatile. I was born with a limb difference (Poland syndrome), which means I only have two fingers on my right hand. So, confidence was a big issue for me growing up. Add thin hair to that, and you have a recipe for a wallflower. My mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away when I was 13. I remember when she brought home her first wig from the wig bank. She hated it. It was hot and because it was made for someone else, it never fit her comfortably. She was embarrassed to leave the house somedays because of how she looked. I really wish that we had known about toppers back then. I think she would have loved them. My mom is a big part of my “why” when it comes to my business.

Q: What is something valuable you’d like others to know?

A: Something valuable I learned from a young age, due to my limb difference, is that sometimes you have to find your own way. You have to figure out how to do things yourself and not try to imitate someone else’s process because it might not work for you. I think this idea is helpful in life and in business. Comparison is the thief of joy. We are resilient, and it is amazing what we can do when we let go of traditional mindsets about how to do things and figure out what works for us. I’ve also learned to laugh at myself more. I started taking improv/comedy classes a couple of years ago. Being on stage is one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done. It has also boosted my confidence in general. The first rule of improv is to make your partner look good, which means saying yes to whatever they say. So, if they tell you that you are an alien, you are an alien. I’ve learned a lot about teamwork and confidence doing improv. I highly recommend improv; it is so good for the soul.

Q: What does feminism mean to you?

A: Feminism is a word that has always had a bit of a negative connotation to me. I am more of an egalitarian; meaning in my marriage, we share all of the responsibilities. There is no such thing as woman’s work or man’s work. My husband is the better cook anyway! And I can lay a tile floor. I love busting through those gender expectations. I am definitely not anti-man, but I am definitely pro-woman! I think it is important for women to support other women. Yes, we have disadvantages in the workplace. Yes, we are not always treated equally. So, I think it is important to support and encourage each other as women instead of tearing each other down. We women can be super competitive, but I want to cheer on my competition. I want us all to win.
