Q and A with Julia from Stockholm, Sweden, now settled in San Francisco, CA
“It’s okay to take a rest sometimes! It makes you more productive.”
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: Passion is what drives me! I am super passionate about bringing spiritual awakening to people in a quick and easily digestible way. I found that by going through my awakening myself, especially my Saturn Return where I left everything in Sweden for the unknown in the U.S. I followed my heart and took a huge risk to come to the states. And once I got settled and started building my career in gaming, I realized something was missing. And that something was a consistent connection to my spirituality, but on my terms, in my time. I needed something fast to help me stay grounded and inspired. I started tinkering with a daily app filled with spiritual goodies and a daily ritual. This need to fill a hole in my own life gave birth to Saged!

Now, Saged is so much more than a daily app for spiritual expansion. We are building an entire universe to help people connect with and develop their spirituality. With physical goods, digital experiences, and the magic in the app, we are supporting people where they’re at and helping them get to where they want to be.

Q: What were your younger years like?
A: I was born and raised in Sweden, and until recently, I never realized the type of entrepreneurial spirit I was surrounded by in my family. I saw my family members work hard to make their dreams happen, however unconventional. This made a huge impact on me that I brought with me when I decided to move to the states to explore something bigger. It was during my Saturn Return that everything fell apart in Sweden and I left for the United States for an adventure and never came back. At the time, this made perfect sense and I was so driven to make a life for myself. Looking back, I am so proud of how brave I was to just pick up and move halfway across the world! I settled in San Francisco, got my MBA, and started a career as an executive in gaming. I did this for 20 years until Saged was born and everything changed again. Now, I am running the company of my dreams and helping people discover their power!

Q: What is something valuable you’d like others to know?
A: As a woman who worked in a high-powered position as an executive in the male-dominated gaming industry, the intuitive feminine perspective is so valuable. I recognized that I don’t work like my male counterparts who are expected to continuously be productive and creative. I work in creative bursts; it’s not something that is “on” all the time. I realized that I follow the cycles of the moon and work in a circular vs linear pattern. I am always inputting, but I am not always outputting. In our society, we are expected to always be working, always be producing, and always be creative. But when I gave myself permission to push back on that, even before I started my own company, I realized that I was in much more flow. The push, push, push that our culture and society values are not only exhausting, but it’s also unsustainable. It’s okay to take a rest sometimes! It makes you more productive.
Q: What does feminism mean to you?
A: Being born in a feminist country, Sweden, feminism wasn’t something I ever had to fight for. It was an inherent right that I received at birth and saw in action as I grew up. I see feminism as equal rights for men and women. It’s that simple. In Sweden, feminism is less of a loaded word and it’s more like pro-rights, it’s our birthright. Witnessing the pursuit for women to have the same rights as men in everything in the states has made me realize that feminism transcends male and female, it’s just about the human right to equal access and equal opportunity.

MORE ABOUT JULIA: I always love a good adventure. As devoted as I am to my family and my company, I prioritize my well-being by taking time to fill my cup with spiritual adventures. I recently went on a 2-week trip to hike in Peru and unplug. I also take a huge step back during the summer to spend time with family and friends in Sweden and abroad. I love to travel and I have realized that when I make time for it, I am happier, more creative, have better boundaries, and have much less stress and anxiety. We are told in this society that rest and taking time off aren’t productive. But I see it as the exact opposite.
