Q and A with Annie from Regina, Saskatchewan
“In all the work I’ve done with women, I’ve heard over and over that they didn’t know there was another option or that they had any choice in how they treat their symptoms or their hormones.”
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I’m most passionate about women’s health. I work as a naturopathic doctor, focusing primarily on women’s health. I also have an online program called the Symptom-Free Period System that teaches women how to naturally balance their hormones so they can live without period symptoms (or perimenopause or menopause symptoms) that is launching this month. I’m really lucky to have known I wanted to be a doctor since I was little. I think I started saying I wanted to be a doctor around age 6. I found naturopathic medicine on my own health journey when I was struggling with hormonal migraines and severe cramps with my period. For me, discovering naturopathic medicine was a lightbulb moment and really led to finding my true path.

Q: What were your younger years like?
A: I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. I’m lucky to have grown up with a close-knit family. My two older sisters and I all played competitive basketball, so a lot of my time was spent in a gym either playing or watching. I was always very interested in sports medicine and sports nutrition, and I became fascinated with the fact that the body can heal itself. That is probably where my love of science, anatomy, and medicine began.

Q: What is something valuable you’d like others to know?
A: I would like everyone to know that women shouldn’t be experiencing painful or life-disrupting symptoms with their menstrual cycle. In all the work I’ve done with women, I’ve heard over and over that they didn’t know there was another option or that they had any choice in how they treat their symptoms or their hormones. It’s my mission to help as many women as I can so that no women are left thinking that their body hates them or that they’re meant to be in pain every month.

Q: What does feminism mean to you?
A: Feminism is supporting equality for all human beings of all sexes.
